It remains indefensible because of strong tourism fundamentals, deep culture and global appeal.
These ratings based on the economy of the destination, tourism infrastructure, safety, and sustainable tourism product place Paris at the heights of city tourism.
Europe occupies the leading position in the ranking and includes six cities in the top 10. Next are Madrid, Rome, Milan, Amsterdam and lastly Barcelona, all cities that have their own special mixture of history, arts and vitality.
Outside Europe, Tokyo and Singapore are two prime examples of the growing power of the Asia-Pacific region; they are both traditional and progressive. A new significant result is New York City with a multicultural vibe and strong economy ranking 6th in North America, and Sydney with beautiful landscapes and leisure, occupying 10th place in Oceania.
